Membership in the DC Society of Certified Public Managers provides benefits of several types. First among them is the opportunity to continue the educational and networking processes begun during one’s CPM course work. Overwhelmingly, CPM students and graduates rank the networking opportunities provided by their courses and through the Society as one of the most important aspects of their CPM experience. Through their courses and Society membership, CPMs are able to meet, work, and learn from with their peers throughout their own government and other governments in the region. However, Society membership provides additional benefits including economic ones, which help to ensure that "membership pays for itself," in both tangible and intangible ways.
DC CPM Society members receive various discounts and free items, the value of which is far more than the membership fees (see membership form), and several of which are uniquely available to members of the DC Society. These discounts and related benefits include:
- American Academy of Certified Public Managers: Individual
membership in the American
Academy of Certified Public Managers is included
in each CPM's local Society membership fees.
- Free subscriptions to the electronic edition of The
Public Manager. Society members receive a free
subscription to the electronic edition of The Public Manager,
a quarterly practitioner’s journal dedicated to serving
those that work in and practice government management and
leadership. The electronic edition of the journal
is the exact same content as the printed edition, except
that it is distributed to members over the Internet as
a PDF file.
- Governing Magazine. A special agreement with Governing
Magazine simplifies the subscription
process for CPMs wishing to receive this well known magazine
for and about state and local government professionals.
Certified Public Managers joining the Society and
completing its membership form can qualify for a free Governing
subscription without filling out a separate form. Just
make sure you complete the three Governing-specific questions
on the form and check off that you do, in fact, wish to
receive Governing Magazine.
- Corel Software. Society members benefit from a discount program
we have negotiated on their behalf with the Corel
Corporation which
provides exceptional pricing on professional software tools.
The Word Perfect X3 Office Professional suite, with full MS Office
compatibility, including two years of free upgrade protection
is available for a very special CPM price of $100, the CorelDRAW
Graphics Suite is available for $110 and the Paint Shop Pro Photo
software available for $84.50. Like WordPerfect, both
Draw and Paint Shop also include two years of upgrades.
- Discounted subscriptions to The
Public Manager journal. For those
who are already members and wish to subscribe or renew their
subscriptions to The Public Manager, the Society has arranged
a very deep discount. The CPM rate is $19 for print subscriptions
or $5 for an electronic subscription. Some members even
choose to subscribe to both the print and electronic formats
so that they can maintain their own searchable archive of issues.
- Daly Computers is offering CPM
Society members a blanket discount on its entire line of technology
products, which includes both consumer and professional technology
items. Daly
is a small, local business in Clarksburg, MD, with a product
line card that covers almost any technology product available. Most
importantly, Daly's discount offer extends beyond personal purchases
to purchases CPMs may make in their professional capacity, too,
so your CPM member discount can also be used to obtain better
pricing for your government agency. To
take advantage of this offer CPM's must first register on
Daly's web site. Following verification of an individual's
membership status, the member will be provided access to the
discounted price list on the Daly web site. For further
information, contact Daly directly on 301-670-0381 opt 2, or
contact a Society officer.
- American
Society for Public Administration membership discount membership discount:
CPMs receive a 25 percent discount off the regular $100 membership
fees for the American Society for Public Administration.
- Dell Computer is offering CPMs discounts
ranging from two to twelve percent on a wide range of personal computers
and related products in its business and consumer product lines. To
take advantage of this offer, members should contact a Society
representative to obtain the discount program identification
number required for the Dell web site. To see the products
available, visit Dell at: www.dell.com/ghc.
