Become a CPM: Upcoming Classes
To become a Certified Public Manager, one must attend an
accredited CPM program. Nationally, there
are approximately 26 accredited CPM programs, as
of the Spring of 2006. In the Washington, DC
region, there are three programs: the Program for
Excellence in Municipal Management, run by the District
of Columbia Government; the Institute for Regional
Excellence, run by the Metropolitan Washington Council
of Governments (COG); and the US Department of Agriculture
Graduate School (USDA) CPM program.
Both the DC and the COG CPM programs contract for the services of the George Washington University to provide the actual teaching for the CPM courses. The USDA program utilizes the services of Rutgers University to teach its CPM courses and, unlike the other local programs, USDA CPM students can earn up to six hours of credit towards a Masters of Public Administration degree as they obtain their CPMs.
